As a dancer myself, I find capturing the human body in motion a natural relationship. The nature of real-time live performance in the ever-changing environment of moving bodies and light changes has forced me to develop an instinctual approach behind the camera as well as fast problem solving skills. Over the past years I have been researching the very relationship between the moving body and the camera operator. I researched ways in which particular movement can/should be captured to enable the viewer behind the lens to experience the feeling of immersing with the dancers and/or performance. I continue to search for new approached and I suspect that it will be an on-going investigation.

Me and the Gimbal. Capturing moving bodies has introduced me to the handheld Gimbal stabilisers such as DJI Ronin, an obvious choice to enable smooth filming, but I have found that my background as a dancer has given me skills to operate a gimbal well. I have been nicknamed 'the dancing cameraman'.

Over the past decade I have freelanced as a digital content creator for performances, theatres, installations and exhibitions within the rich cultural sector in Belgium and beyond. I create engaging trailers, performance captures for distribution, collaborating with artist in multi-disciplined creations and all post production services.

Contre-jour (teaser) 2021 - Alexander Vantournhout / not standing

Concept & choreography: Alexander Vantournhout Created with and performed by: Philomène Authelet, Tina Breiova, Noémi Devaux, Ariadna Girones Mata & Aymara Parola When people or animals move along a loose surface of sand or soil, they leave traces. These prints made by feet or paws ‘describe’ what’s underfoot and remind us of the original meaning of the word choreography: ‘to write with movement’. Contre-jour is set on a stretch of sand. Five performers walk, run, hop, move like cats on hands and feet to create a diversity of ‘im-pressions’ – only to erase them to make way for new symbols, new choreography. But also to vanish, because leaving traces can be dangerous: you might be entering someone’s property illegally or trying to pass a border unseen. In Contre-jour, the movements leave impressions, in the loose sand but also in the spectator’s memory. Five bodies pass by through the desolate landscape, as if it were a film. Five individuals helping one another as a group with collective movements, solos and duets. In dance and live singing. Solace and resistance reverberate through the interplay of togetherness and solitude. Contre-jour is the latest performance by not standing, the company led by Alexander Vantournhout, where every creation originates from fundamental movement study After the duet Through the Grapevine (2020), and the site specific project SCREWS (2019), selected for THEATERFESTIVAL 2020, Alexander Vantournhout now – for the first time – chooses to fully embrace the role of choreographer and gives the stage to a cast of five performers with diverse backgrounds in dance, musical, circus and more. World premiere: 2 November 2021 – CENTQUATRE Paris Coproduction: Kunstencentrum Vooruit Ghent (BE), Theater op de Markt Neerpelt (BE), CENTQUATRE-Paris (FR), Cirque-Théâtre Elbeuf (FR), Charleroi danse centre chorégraphique de Wallonie-Bruxelles (FR), Lithuanian Dance Information Center (LT), Theater Freiburg (DE), Peeping Tom (BE) and others tbc

DATADREAM by Steven Michel [teaser #1]

Steven Michel is fascinated by how every new technology throughout history has been a cataclysm for the emergence of new ways of thinking and imagining oneself according to otherness. From Steven’s point of view, technology encompasses multiple experiences, such as drawing in a cave, starting a fire, hearing a voice but not seeing the body, reading a message being written on air, creating virtual identities over existing physical bodies, feeding a virtual pet, poking someone, as well as speaking with the dead, awakening ghosts and personal memories in order to move forward … . He sees the virtual and the ritual as two concepts that are not really far from each other, and considers them to be coexisting in liminal spaces. DATADREAM is a new solo by and with Steven in which he explores how technology affects the body and the psyche in relation to reality, spirituality and alterity. Conceived as a cyberdelic experience, he invites us on a very personal, physical and spiritual journey, which unfolds within a multimedia environment interacting in real time. Using visualization, as well as the voice and the body, Steven orients himself through altered states of consciousness, mental maps, flowing identities and speculative fictions, in order to literally stretch and fold the boundaries of the self. A techno-archaic environment takes shape under our very eyes, haunting us with the idea that humans have always been travelers who access parallel worlds through the mind and the collective unconscious, therefore creating their own reality. In a world that more and more demands subscription, registration and tracking, can one not step away and experience again the pleasure and joy and danger to trespass into completely virtual, imaginary and invisible realms? With DATADREAM, Steven continues his trajectory as a maker into interdisciplinary collaborations, inviting artists working with light, sound and video media, to join this shared and immersive experience. more info and tour dates via www.grip.house teaser by Stanislav Dobák CREDITS CONCEPT AND PERFORMANCE: Steven Michel SOUND AND MUSIC COMPOSITION: Raphaëlle Latini and Mathieu Bonnafous VIDEO DESIGN: Laetitia Bica LIGHTING DESIGN: Jan Fedinger COSTUME DESIGN: Valérie Hellebaut DRAMATURGICAL ASSISTANCE: Lynda Rahal ARTISTIC ADVICE: Théo Mercier OUTSIDE EYE: Jan Martens VIDEO SOURCE MATERIAL: Laetitia Bica and Steven Michel VIDEO EDITING: Jan Fedinger and Laetitia Bica TECHNICAL DIRECTION: Nele Verreyken PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT: Sylvie Svanberg PRODUCTION: GRIP INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION: A propic / Line Rousseau and Marion Gauvent RESIDENCIES: Montévidéo (Marseille, FR), WorkSpaceBrussels (BE), Le Gymnase CDCN Roubaix Hauts-de-France (FR), wpZimmer (Antwerp, BE) and CAMPO (Ghent, BE) COPRODUCTION: CND Centre national de la danse (Paris, FR), C-TAKT (Limburg, BE), Le Gymnase CDCN Roubaix Hauts-de-France (FR), wpZimmer (Antwerp, BE), CAMPO (Ghent, BE) and Perpodium (BE) WITH THE SUPPORT OF: the Flemish Government, the City of Antwerp, Tax Shelter of the Belgian Federal Government and Cronos Invest This project is supported through the framework of cultural cooperation between the Flemish Community and the Region Hauts-de-France
